Part One:

We speak with Mel Goodman, Professor of Government at Johns Hopkins University, about the Trump administration’s refusal to negotiate any disarmament treaties (as all of his predecessors since Eisenhower have done). Instead, Trump has dangerously abrogated the Intermediate Nuclear Force Treaty, as recommended by John Bolton (who also urged Pres. Bush to abrogate the ABM treaty). Nor has this president pushed for nuclear non-proliferation, despite his friendly relationships with Putin in Russia, Kim Jong Il in North Korea, and Netanyahu in Israel.

Part Two:

We speak with Daniel Block, an editor at Washington Monthly, about Prime Minister Modi’s recent victory in India’s elections, and Modi’s pursuit of a politics of Hindu nationalism. Like other populist nationalist leaders around the globe, Modi blames his enemies (especially Muslims) for India’s faltering economy and other societal woes, and periodically engages in violent attacks against Muslims, in order to intimidate them and to energize his electoral base.
