Part One: a conversation with Alex S Vitale, who is professor of sociology and coordinator of the Policing and Social Justice Project at Brooklyn College and the author of The End of Policing

We discuss various ways to introduce change to the way that police behave with black and other minorities. In the light of the American citizens’ response to the recent killing of George Floyd, it is obvious that what has gone before has not worked. Prof. Vitale believes that the only way to correct the issue of the police militarization is to defund the police, and allow the appropriate agencies, such as welfare and education agencies, take on the tasks that the police are doing now, by default
