Part 1: Arnie Arnesen and Steven Rosenfeld

A discussion of the DNC plan to require a mobile voting option for the upcoming primary. Including the caucuses. This would mean that participants could use a phone in or online option to express preferences among the 23 candidates in the Democratic field. Two states, Iowa and Nevada, are the first and third, respectively. This has not been done for 50 years, and the systems may be different for those states, because each state can buy the solution from a different vendor. This is problematic because of the dangers, specifically, hacking, the problems with the user interface that might disadvantage older voters. The Canadian experience with these systems has been problematic. Because of this, the integrity of the vote may be questioned. The DNC Rules Committee will meet to discuss this step on June 28.. There has been no test of the systems so far.
This effort at discussion is a project of the Independent Media Institute. Steven Rosenfeld is a national political reporter focusing on democracy issues. He has reported for nationwide public radio networks, websites, and newspapers and produced talk radio and music podcasts. He has written five books, including profiles of campaigns, voter suppression, voting rights guides, and a WWII survival story currently being made into a film. His latest book is Democracy Betrayed: How Superdelegates, Redistricting, Party Insiders, and the Electoral College Rigged the 2016 Election
Part 2: Arnie Arnesen and Mchael Lewis discussing a proposed Children’s Bill of Rights. Michael Lewis is a former Assistant Attorney General of NH. This deals with the need for a something that can be used by children to protect them from having funds cut that are earmarked for child protection, as has been done in the past. The importance of having such a Bill of Rights will give children the ability to assert their rights in court, including class actions and suing for damages. The Bill would include the following: -protection from abuse, -safe and healthy environment, -appropriate medical treatment, -legal services and advocates, and -privacy.
