We talk with Jeremy Stahl, Slate Senior Editor, and author of “Why Hasn’t Trump Been Indicted Yet?”
We discuss the reasons why the country has essentially been ignoring Jan. 6, and the participants are not shunned. Is this preparation for 2024, when any outcome not favorable to Republicans is to be considered invalid and therefore to be contested violently? We talk about the various possible civil and criminal indictments that might be brought, and possible outcomes in the event.
We talk with Lucas Mann about a free speech crisis on campus, but not quite as portrayed recently. Mann teaches creative writing at the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth. We discuss the problems of free speech as they are experienced by most college and university students: speech that is dependent on their economic circumstances, and life circumstances. These are students who are not rich, not elite, and not privileged, for the most part. They are struggling with debt, social and survival problems, and far removed from the ivory tower. They see their education as a way to gain social status, economic advantages, rather than just self-actualization.
