Part 1:
A conversation with Lauren Rankin is a writer and the author of Bodies on the Line: At the Front Lines of the Fight to Protect Abortion in America. I DEDICATE THIS SECOND INTERVIEW TO MARY LOU SAYER, MY FRIEND, CONFIDANTE, BRIDESMAID AND WHO, AT THE AGE OF 93, FINALLY STOPPED ESCORTING WOMEN TO THEIR APPOINTMENT FOR AN ABORTION After 30 Years of Turning Abortion Clinics Into War Zones, Now You Want “Civility”? https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2022/05/protest-alito-kavanaugh-roe-v-wade-abortion.html Lauren Rankin is a writer, speaker, and activist. She is the author of Bodies on the Line: At the Front Lines of the Fight to Protect Abortion in America, available now everywhere books are sold. She has written for the Washington Post, The Cut, Fast Company, Teen Vogue, NBC News, Slate, TIME, and many more. She has appeared on SiriusXM, the BBC, CTV News, Times Radio, BuzzFeed News, and more, and has been a keynote speaker at places like Rutgers University and Cornell University. She served as a volunteer clinic escort at a New Jersey abortion clinic from 2014-2020, and is a board member of A is For, a reproductive rights advocacy organization. The Horrifying Implications of Alito’s Most Alarming Footnote A “domestic supply of infants” is exactly what the framers of the 14th Amendment intended to abolish. The latest bill passed by the Senate to “protect” justices against peaceful protest is an abrogation of the first amendment. Considering that there have been ten assassinations fo clinic workers since 1994, it is irony and hypocrIsy, at least. While, in fact, the majority of Americans approve of abortion. Unfortunately, Democrats seem afraid to admit this and fight for it. Part 2: A conversation with David Dayen the Executive Editor of the American Prospect The Age of Rationing From pandemic supply chain snarls to baby formula shortages, we forgot that physical production isn’t magic, and we need to engineer it for stability. Efficiency means that the profits are maximized. Stability and resiliency means that utility is maximized. The market, as structured is faulty, and distorted by the WIC program, which in effect creates monopolies for a few manufacturers. We also discuss the problems of the way that money is allocated. We know that a pandemic is inevitable, but no money has been voted to deal with it. The solutions now being applied to inflation are old solutions that will not work, as they have not worked in the past, because they do not tackle the root causes. Instead, they impose a kind of rationing.
