Part 1:
Joe Jowarski, candidate for TX attorney general, talks with us about the problems in Texas that he hopes to help solve. There is a culture war in Texas, and in the US. Texas is a one-party state, with mismanagement and cronyism. Mail in ballots have been discarded in the last primary election. This is particularly problematic for older voters, who tend to use mail in ballots more. The Texas National Guard mobilized by Governor Abbott has been found to be acting as private security for wealthy Texans. Rural hospitals are closing. Texas is no longer business-friendly. The bullying behavior of AG Paxton is obvious. Schools are now political battlegrounds.. Part 2: Robert Hockett teaches legal, financial and some philosophical subjects at Cornell University in New York, where he is the Edward Cornell Professor of Law and a Professor of Public Policy. He is also Senior Counsel at Westwood Capital, a socially responsible investment bank in midtown Manhattan, and a Fellow of The Century Foundation. Bill Curry is a lawyer, former two time nominee for gov of CT, was Counselor to the President and served as domestic strategist in the Clinton White House from February 21, 1995 until January 20, 1997 and served as the head of Freeze Voter, a nuclear freeze group. We discuss Zelenskyy’s speech before the US Congress, which was very impressive. It is obvious that the battle in Ukraine is a battle for democracy as a whole, not just the country alone. This is a struggle against a war of naked aggression, launched by a despot. Going forward, it will be important to defend democratic values explicitly.
