Part 1:
We talk with Tom Wolf who is the Deputy Director and Spitzer Fellow with the Brennan Center’s Democracy Program about various ways in which gerrymandering has been used in states. Specifically, the insistence of some state legislatures that they can regulate voting, even voting in federal elections. The various federal courts, including the Supreme Court, have taken up such cases. We discuss how these cases have been decided in the past, and what is the likely course in the future under the current orientation. Part 2: We talk with Allan Ripp, who runs a New York-based press relations firm, about the purported “de-Nazification” of Ukraine that Putin is citing. We talk about the history of antisemitism in Ukraine and eastern Europe. Ukraine has made some strides in this area, because they have passed laws against antisemitism, including penalties for infractions. The president of Ukraine is Jewish, though this does not automatically mean that all prejudice is gone. But progress has been made.
