Part 1: We talk with Hedrick Smith, Pulitzer Prize winning writer and correspondent, about voting rights being abrogated by local officials, many of them right-wing. This is a systemic problem in the nation, because of the political monopoly that Republicans are instituting. Part 2: We talk with Prof. Marcia Rieke, Principal Investigator for the Near Infrared Camera (NIRCam) for the James Webb Space Telescope and a Regents Professor of Astronomy at the University of Arizona. We discuss the recent deployment of the James Webb telescope, a very ambitious project to see the early stage of our universe. We also talk about the cost, which was was spread over more than 20 years, (mostly on salaries) and how it relates to the Pentagon budget, which is many times more per year.
