Part 1:
Sibhan Siu Bai McDonough, Vox.com, joined us to discuss the projects to provide guaranteed income for formerly incarcerated people now being tested in Florida, and other places. This is to help individuals who have no resources to restart their lives. They are too poor to be free, and their crime is their bank account. Helping them will save money in the long run, so any money spent is an investment, and cheaper than prison or the cost of future crime. Part 2: We talk with Rakeen Mabud, Managing Director of Groundwork Collabortive about the suply chain problem. This is a problem that has been in the making for years, due to dismantiling regulations, off-shoring, just-in-time inventories, etc. The US has become a mainly service-sector economy, which is dependent on people. Prices have risen because of greed of the shippers and suppliers and the way that the Fed has attempted to reduce demand without addressing underlying problems, rather than increasing supply. We are experiencing price-gouging.
