Everything he does seems aimed at garnering him attention prior to his race to retain the governorship. He and Beto are polling closely. Both Abbott and Lt. Gov. Patrick are threatening the business community with retribution for not falling in line with the Republican culture war issues.

Despite the Republicans’ campaign to smear her supporters, she has been confirmed. The Republican comments are a preview of what they are likely to voice during the 2022 senate races. This is related to Trump’s attacks on the unions, especially those that represent federal workers. The growing union movement is a positive sign.
