Keith O’Brien is a writer, and journalist and has written extensively on women who pioneered in male dominated fields. He has written a book, “Paradise Falls”, which is the store of the women who brought the Love Canal environmental catastrophe to light. He describes at length the struggle the women had in investigating the problems due to the Love Canal poisons. The struggle was against the Hooker Chemical Company, the government, and their struggle to enable the residents in the area to move away.
We talk with Daniel Cohan, an environmental scientist. Texas may serve as an example for the rest of the country in terms of efficiently replacing coal with solar and wind power for the nation's energy requirements while fulfilling environmental requirements. Texas leads in wind power generation. There are, however, some issues that must be studied and resolved before this can take place: storage for any excess power; routes for power delivery, locations for the power windmills, etc. Texas is isolated from the national power grid, which complicates this even more. There is a possibility that the Build Back Better bill may provide some funds to start this in Texas.
