Part 1: We talk with Joel Christensen, Chair of Classics at Brandeis University, about collective trauma and its effects on collective behavior. We talk in the context of 9-11, and how this affected Americans' desire for war, and the sense of fragility in American minds. There is collective suffering mythology. Part 2: We talk with Rui Kaneya, who is a senior reporter at the Center for Public Integrity about the broken refugee program in the US. We discuss the different ways a person is classified as a refugee, and what is necessary to fix the current problems, which are especially important for the Afghans who need help now.
