We talk with John Nichols, writer and historian, journalist. We discuss the goal of the founding fathers for the new nation, One of these was avoidance of entanglements in foreign wars. This was brought out in a speech by John Quincy Adams in 1821, where he warned against this event. We must study the past in order to learn from it.
Part 2: We talk with Nikki Usher, Associate Professor, University of Illinois. We discuss the decline of local journalism, and the resultant effect on the news that most of us read/hear/see. Local news, that which affects us the most, is often ignored, and only national news is covered. The number of news outlets is decreasing, and the viewpoints are diminished.
