We talk with Prof. Tom VanHeuvelen (U. of Minnesota) about his study of the relationship of poverty and lack of union membership. Average poverty rate is 5.9% in populations that are unionized. Those that are not union members have a poverty rate of 18.5%. His and colleagues' longitudinal study show many advantages to union membership, primarily reduction of poverty.
We talk with Bob Hennelly, author of "Stuck Nation" about his book, and the status of municipal workers and their treatment regarding the dangers of their jobs. These dangers include lingering aftereffects of traumatic events, such as the Covid infections. We also discuss the reluctance of the Republicans to acknowledge true, if uncomfortable, history.
